Smiljana Milinkov

Smiljana Milinkov is an associate professor at the Department of Media Studies, Faculty of Philosophy in Novi Sad. She defended her doctoral dissertation “Formal and informal education and professional status of female journalists in Vojvodina – a gender perspective” in 2016 at the ACIMSI Center for Gender Studies of the University of Novi Sad. She completed her master degree in Journalism at the Faculty of Political Sciences in Belgrade, and her bachelor studies at the Department of History at the Faculty of Philosophy in Novi Sad. Her research interest is focused on gender studies, media representation of socially sensitive groups and media ethics. She is the author of two books: Journalists in Vojvodina – education, professional status and gender identity and Hatred of Others: Solidarity with Others, as well as several works published in domestic and international magazines and anthologies.

She taught history for a year at the “Svetozar Marković” Gymnasium in Novi Sad and worked at Radio 021 in Novi Sad for nine years. She participated in scientific conferences in the country and in the region, the “Media circle” international research on the index of media clientelism, regional projects on media discourse on poverty and social exclusion in Serbia, media reporting on the process of the European Union integrations, as well as research on the socio-economic and professional status of media workers in Vojvodina, representation of female politicians and sportswomen in the media. She is a member of the Independent Association of Journalists of Vojvodina and the Journalists Against Violence network.
